Having lived in Baton Rouge for almost 3 years, from 2012 to 2015 I felt a desire to create a design to remind me of these times. The time I lived in Baton Rouge was a period of self-discovery and growth. Wanna know something funny? The street I lived on for two years was called Retreat Lane.
For those that are unaware, "Baton Rouge" is French for "red stick" and while I didn't use red enameling or coloring in this design, the sticks to me also take me back to the childhood saying "sticks and stones may break my bones but words could never hurt me." While Baton Rouge never truly felt like home, living there certainly allowed me the learning experiences to grow into a stronger person. The sticks placed in this manner look like a fence, a structure, a framework. Baton Rouge will always be a part of my journey in helping to create the framework of my life in Louisiana.
